Field Notes

Description:

Evergreen fronds that curl up and appear dead when conditions are dry, but are open and green when conditions are wet. This specimen is between conditions. Part of the tree faces sun while the other part faces shade, so some fronds are green and some are curled and dry. Spores noticeable on the bottom of the dry fronds.

Habitat:

Georgia Piedmont, located on the Indian Springs State Park Multi-Use Nature Trail, near a high point. This tree faces open sunlight on one side and shade on the other, constantly.
