Did this flower happen to smell like chocolate? It looks like a Chocolate Daisy (Berlandiera lyrata) I like your idea of documenting your property, and eliminating lawn. I've been doing the same, both documenting and reducing lawn. It saves a lot on water, and the natives bring in an amazing variety of critters.
