Field Notes

Description:

The length of the wing is about an 2cm.

Habitat:

Urban flower pots.

Notes:

Given how fuzzy haired the body of this butterfly was and the deeper orange-brown color, I started wondering it it may be a moth. So I did some research on the difference between the two. This are two sites with the easiest to understand descriptions and facts:
http://www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/butterflymoth.html
http://insects.about.com/od/learningaboutinsects/a/butterflyormoth.htm
The bottom line, this is a butterfly because of the antennas with knobs at the ends and the posture.

maybe the Woodland Skipper (Ochlodes sylvanoides)
Thanks for the family name of the butterfly. I was able to narrow it down to Grass Skipper, but not to a specific species.
This is a skipper (Hesperiidae)
