Field Notes

Description:

The King penguin is the second largest penguin and looks somewhat like the Emperor penguin. They are about 3 feet tall and weigh up to 35 pounds. King penguins have orange spots near their ears and on the neck. King penguins mainly eat fish and some squid and crustaceans.

Habitat:

Rather, they are found on sub-Antarctic islands. This means that this visitor has swam roughly between 2000 and 6000 km to get here. It is not entirely unheard of for them to occasionally swim in our waters and arrive on our shores.
