Description:
The state flower of Colorado. The petals are commonly pale blue, but they can also be red, yellow, or pink.
Habitat:
These are found all over the Rocky Mountains in the United States. This picture was taken in the southern Mount Evans Wilderness west of Denver.
Notes:
This may be a Rocky Mountain columbine (Aquilegia saximontana), a slightly different species found in the same area that looks almost exactly the same. But my understanding is that the Colorado Blue is more common.
