Field Notes

Description:

Schooling fish that eat small fish and crustaceans. Resemble baby tarpon , sometimes called "poor mans tarpon". Leap when hooked, fun to catch, very bony and not considered edible to most. Usually found in saltwater but will venture into brackish water

Habitat:

In clear water around spring opening at Salt Springs. Heavy rains pushed tannin water from lake up into spring.
