Many scarab beetles are dung eaters, but not all of them are. Some also feed on sap, fruit, etc. Check out Bugguide for more info, this page has pictures of a lot of different examples of scarab beetles: http://bugguide.net/node/view/187
isn't scarabe beatle dang eaters? this one wasn't.
Definitely a scarab beetle, though I can't get any more specific than that.
