Gray-headed Kite

The Gray-headed Kite is an small raptor, 46-53 cm in length and weight 410 to 605 g. The adult has a grey head, black upperparts, white underparts, and a black tail with two or three white bars. The bill is blue and the legs grey.it is widely distributed in lowland forested habitats from Central America south to southern Brazil and Uruguay. The Grey-headed kite has a very broad diet including, insects birds, snakes, lizards, geckos, cicadas, frogs and small mammals.
This individual has observed early in the morning in Tortuguero National Park North Caribbean of Costa Rica.
The breeding season is from March to June, has two clutches a year with a setting of two to three white eggs. Nest in the treetop on platforms. It is a quiet raptor thats flies with some laziness and changes only from branch or tree from time to time.
