Field Notes

Description:

A medium-sized hawk with a distinctive head crest, piercing yellow eyes and a barred chest. This one has caught some sort of tasty insect, which Bazas enjoy along with tree frogs, lizards, small birds and fruit.

Habitat:

Seen in the grounds of the Chenrezig Institute (Buddhist study centre) near Eudlo in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Notes:

My first sighting of a Pacific Baza - I was terribly excited! The friend I was with had to wait while I took about 400 shots. : )

Great spotting, i've got a pair that live in the trees in my yard. They use to hang around for a while and then leave but these two have decided to stay, which means i have to listen to the noisy miners carry on all day every day! I love that second shot Shanna! So funny!
Thanks Marta, it is cute - except for the second shot where its tongue is sticking out! It looks a bit creepy in that one! ; )
Thanks Mac and Argy! I shall name this one Thommo... as in 'Thommo the Bazza'.
These birds gave us the most common Aussie male name... Bazza!! Great shots Shanna.
