Description:
Small black Weevil of 4 mm in length. It is deeply pitted and spotted with pale brown patches of scales. With age, these wear off and the beetle will appear entirely black. The elytra are also striated. It has a deep groove between the front 2 pairs of coxae into which the proboscis fits when the weevil feels threatened. It will also drop to the ground and feign death for long periods of time. Family Curculionidae, Subfamily Cryptorhynchinae.
Habitat:
Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
