Field Notes

Description:

Mantidae; Mantinae; Paramantini; Hierodula; Hierodula patellifera Serville, 1839. I am not sure, but this mantis appeared to have a swollen abdomen which makes me think it is a gravid female. So, I resisted the temptation to pick it up and try to get a picture of it on my hand (I sometimes do this - don't know why) and just backed off, leaving it undisturbed.

Habitat:

Spotted in leaf litter at the side of the road during a bug hunt in the local hills.
