Tussock Moth (sp)
Halysidota sp.
32.605, -84.8828
Field Notes
Description:
Largish white moth (maybe the size of a leopard moth) with one colored marking on it's thorax, cream with bluish outlines.
Thanks to Christine for help with ID. This moth cannot be distinguished between Sycamore Tussock (sp harrisii) or Banded Tussock (sp tessellaris) without genital dissection; however, for some reason tessellaris notes particularly that it is attracted to artificial light and I did find this one in proximity to my porch light.
Habitat:
west central ga
Notes:
Part of the rain refugees that camped out on my door when I left the porch light on in a storm.
