My highly trained skills of observation tell me that this is not a plant but an arthropod. I have moved it to that category for you. If you think I am mistaken, I will be happy to discuss the point over dinner and wine some time. :-)
I think this is a Phyllophaga sp. or May/June bug. They call these Abejones de Mayo here in Costa Rica.
