I was lucky to get this shot. I hadn't put the zoom lens on my camera yet. I disturbed this beauty just after dawn.

Heh. No noise at all, actually. I arrived before dawn, and the sun had just crested the horizon when I took this. I think the heron was freshly awake. Weirdly, now that you mention it, the entire morning was pretty much silent. I got lots of photos (several other sightings posted here) and nothing made any noise.
Hehe, did it make that godawful squawking noise as it flew off? The first time I accidentally disturbed one and it did that I thought I'd given it a heart attack!
