I saw someone else with a similar bird on here that required an I.D., and realized that this is probably what you saw, especially considering warblers are migratory and probably won't be in your area for at least another month or two! And if you decide it's not a Downy woodpecker, I'd suggest researching other woodpeckers native to your area.
I've recently heard of a species called the Black And White Warbler (or something similar). Could this be the mysterious bird?
