Field Notes

Description:

Males are orange or red, with grey stripes on the back, and black wings with white wing bars. There are 4 subspecies and the male of the subspecies of western Mexico (bidentata) is more orange, especially on the face and the belly, than are males of the three other subspecies, which are redder overall.

Habitat:

San Gerardo de Dota.
