Field Notes

Description:

Earthtone gray with brown checks on back with blue cheeks and ribcage. Aprox. 4" long

Habitat:

Dead wood near edge of pine grove

Notes:

Was extremly docile, even let me pose his head with a twig.

He looks like a type of monitor lizard. Maybe a young savana monitor? We had one come into the vet ER that I work for- some one found it on the side of the road. I live in NC too, and we have had some great weather for the last week. :)

Reptiles aren't very common this far north, especially at this time of the year! He must've come out for the warm weather we were having. Too bad it didn't last though, probably ruffled his scales a bit. Very fortunate find!
