Field Notes

Description:

The second largest living bird by height. The was a captive emu at a ranch on the highway. We had seen a wild one earlier attracted to the desert museum's captives and apparently wanting to join the group - it displayed its speed as it raced around the pen. By contrast this one was calm and seemed to be studying us

Notes:

Unlike the wild bird, this captive bird could only be photographed in closeup
