In the forest. taken with flash.

Notes:

Mabira Forest, the only remaining tropical jungle in central Uganda. A huge sugar cane plantation is ever trying to take over the forest, and people are fighting to retain it.

Well Martin, Bicyclus anynana centralis looks like it is found in Uganda and looks correct. You were not far off after all, it seems.
Hahaha Martin, that I shall do... Be back down under again in September for a month. If we find a nice day, we should go checking under bushes, logs and leaves again!
Yes, it was a quick guess without thorough research so I didn't enter an official ID. Looking at your site, the Bicyclus vulgaris appears closer. I'm reluctant to call this one but you can always ask your dentist :)

Sad story. Oh, how badly we need more sugar! This is a cute brown, notice four legs only in Nymphalidae. Maybe its the Squinting Bush Brown (or something close) Bicyclus anynana http://rspb.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/280/1758.cover-expansion
