Description:

Large, white to yellow-tinged cap with free white to pink gills, smooth stalk, and a large saclike cup around stalk base; sunk in wood. Cap is from 2-8" wide; egg-shaped at first, becoming bell-shaped to convex

Habitat:

Solitary, in wounds on hardwood trees and on stumps and logs. Especially maple, beech, and elm.
