Description:
Almost 6 feet long (if not more) by eye estimation. Grey colour. Draped along vines.
Habitat:
The 'jungle' behind the Panchamundi (5 skull) ashon (meditation seat) at Attohas temple. I saw first hand how religious beliefs of non-violence can protect species. We were walking along the pathway (this temple is house to openbill storks and fruit bats) when we saw the sacred Panchamundi ashon to our left. A stray dog scampered past us and raced back immediately. Our local guide said, "The dog has seen a snake, I have too... and that is why it raced away." SNAKE!! We wanted to see it, so we climbed the stairs of the panchamundi ashon and Voila! There it was. the last shot shows the habitat.
Notes:
What I really appreciated was that there was no commotion or shouts of " Kill the snake." Non venomous.
The ones near my house are smaller and almost black in colour and whip-like in shape. There is a belief that if this snake lashes at you with its tail...the place it touches will turn gangrenous and fall off!
