Description:
A rare species of flowering plant in the broomrape family, also known as golden Indian paintbrush, listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1997. About 25 to 30 cm tall, bright yellow transitioning to orange on lower parts.
Habitat:
Spotted in the Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve (a unique open prairie habitat). This species grows in prairie habitat at low elevations, generally in soils of gravelly, glacier-carved sediment. Only known to grow in a few areas on Vancouver Island , western Washington and Oregon.
