Field Notes

Description:

Moth spotted on Cucurbita argyrosperma (ayote in Costa Rica, cushaw pumpkin according to internet) leaf, the white spot right under the moth is a liquid secreted as I got closer, so I think it is a defensive mechanism.

Thank for the ID, it is bad not to have many information about this kind of moth, I really wanted to know something about that kind of behaviour, mainly because it's the first time I observe it on lepidoptera (as far as I can remember).
Sesiidae, Sesiinae, Melittiini, Melittia sp.. Unfortunatlythere is almost no info about this family. http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxid=86524
