Field Notes

Habitat:

Shallow reefs and rocky bottoms, often in holes and crevices on the rocks and reef.

Notes:

Haven't seen many urchins in a long time in south Florida. Glad to see this guy as they are an important herbivore maintaining reef health by controlling algae. I hope they are making a comeback. Also, this one apparently has the rarer grey spines rather than black.
