Field Notes

Description:

Erebidae; Erebinae; Hulodini; Hulodes caranea (Cramer, 1780). Wikipedia do not specifically mention the Philippines in their distribution information for this moth, but I assume that the Philippines would be included in the phrase "Hong Kong to Queensland". According to pictures in Philippine Lepidoptera, this is a male, but more importantly, this species would not appear in Philippine Lepidoptera if it were not documented as present here.

Habitat:

This moth flew from our backyard into the terrace in the evening and landed in a corner. It may have been attracted to the light, but more likely was desperately seeking shelter from a raging storm.
