Description:

This mite wandered onto the black light sheet, looking very fast and dark. I couldn't believe the actual colors it has. Be sure to look for the big red eye!
Most of the coloring seems to be from scales covering the body. These mites are solitary free living predators. Prostigmata Mite, maybe a species of Trombidium, Family Anystidae. This one was 4 mm long.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
