Passalidae, Bess Beetle or Patent-leather Beetle. In the US it would be easy to ID it, since there is only one species: Odontotaenius disjunctus. But there are several hundreds other species in the neotropics, so, unfortuntately I cannot help you more than the family name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passalidae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odontotaenius_disjunctus http://bugguide.net/node/view/127 You can see that there is no ID further than the family name, not even the genus is indicated. In this case it is a valid compromise to add the family name in scientific name.
