Description:

The Teddy bear cholla is a cholla cactus that has a single trunk and can grow to 5 ft tall. the limbs usually grow horizontally from the trunk giving it a dense appearance. The stem segments usually are shorter than 4 inches long, tuberculated, and are covered in sharp silvery-white to gold spines. This dense fuzzy appearance led to its common name Teddy bear cholla.

Habitat:

Spotted in desert habitat at Joshua Tree National Park.

Notes:

The spines have tiny microscopic barbs. Flowers in May and June.
