Field Notes

Description:

About 7-10 cm wide. As the name implies, eyestalks grow beyond the eyes into long horns which are absent in juveniles.

Habitat:

.Beaches of Indo-Pacific ocean from the coast of East Africa to Phillipines and from Japat to Australia. They native to some of the Pacific islands also.

Notes:

One of the quickest crustaceans in the world can run at speeds of up to 2.1 metres per second.

The strong hairy legs of this animal make it run very fast and it is capable of reaching speeds of about 10 miles per hour. This makes this crab the fastest among all crustaceans.
