Field Notes

Description:

Large, brown katydid with broad-tipped cone (nose) with dark underside. Cone is wider than long. The species name, "triops," translates to "three eyes" in Greek. This label was assigned due to the black spot which is present on the underside of the cone which gives the appearance of a third eye.

Habitat:

Resting on a piece of mail near my front porch lights.
