Salam, a/n Project Noah."
Halo, mas mbilung saya rendy sedang mencoba mengumpulkan para noah ranger region indonesia. jika berkenan saya mohon partisipasinya dan bergabung dalam Grup Project Noah Indonesian Ranger. silahkan kunjungi FB Group : https://www.facebook.com/groups/indonesian.ranger/ terima kasih
If I'm not mistaken this is a broadclub cuttlefish. http://marinebio.org/species.asp?id=1364
KerryJessicaPaulos, so interesting you mention that special (produced by NOVA, I think), I saw it just last night! 20 million pigment cells wired directly to a big brain that processes visual info to change the cuttlefish's color and shape instantly. Fascinating animals!
nice capture of the pigmentation! Nick
Beautiful! I would so love to see one of these while diving!
Beautiful! I just love cuttlefish. They are brilliant, creative animals. It is almost unbelievable how closely related they are to snails! If anyone has ever seen the PBS special about them, you can see the fantastic color shows they put on. This photo is amazing :)
Spotting of the day: "Known as the chameleon of the sea, Cuttlefish are known to blend into many backgrounds with ease and can change into colors of gold, green, silver, and blue." http://facebook.com/projectnoah/posts/111169875638280 http://twitter.com/projectnoah/status/71629792272842752
@CynthiaMHori: I was using Canon PowerShot G10 with underwater housing
Peter that is a great idea - If kids are using the site it is important for them to see that the org is still an invert. Absolutely beautiful photo. I would love to know what camera used. I have never had luck with photos underwater.
We really need a Marine Invertebrate category. It's a shame to have such amazing creatures classified as Other.
You have really great underwater photos Mbilung. When I first saw them I thought they were taken at an aquarium. :-)
Thank you, a realized after I ask that question in comments that you had already given the location in your notes. Another place to put on my list of places I must see. I recently went to the Great Barrier Reef and had an awesome time.
@lori.tas : The name of the island is Sangalaki. It's in East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia.
Yes, they are invertebrates, as in they do not have spines, but for the purpose of this site, we are classing marine invertebrates as "other". Yasser did the same re-classification thing to me when I posted a giant clam as an invertebrate.
Class Cephalopoda - cuttlefish are related to squid and therefor invertebrate Not sure why you would change to other
Awsome photo. I've changed the category from "invertebrate" to "other". What's the name of the island you were diving off of?
