Field Notes

Description:

Largest of the nuthatches measuring between 5-6 inches.

Habitat:

Found throughout the United States in open woods with mature trees, often oak and pine trees.

Notes:

Nuthatches are wonderful to watch because of the way they hop around trees often upside down and their call sounds like they are laughing at times. They also whack seeds into the tree to open them.
