Field Notes

Description:

This bird is a common and widespread resident breeder in most of sub-Saharan Africa. It nests in a wide variety of habitats, and we were fortunate to find a pair nesting outside our hotel room. The bird at the left is a female and at the right is a male. Both took turns excavating the nest hole while the other foraged.
