Field Notes

Description:

A member of the Echinoderm family and is related to sea stars, sea cucumbers and brittle stars. Has five point symmetry and tube feet. Mouth and anus is on the under side of the organism.

Habitat:

a marine invertebrate that lives in the sandy bottoms of sheltered bays and open coastal areas. They form dense beds in the low intertidal and subtidal zones of sheltered bays, and in the subtidal zone just beyond the break zone of coastal areas.

Notes:

This is the test of the sand dollar - it is like the skeleton of the animal. If you spot sand dollar alive it is usually purple
