Field Notes

Description:

Irrawaddy dolphins are critically endangered in the Mekong River, with only 78 to 91 individuals remaining. They are threatened by bycatch, a fishing method as well as pollution and the construction of damns. We were so lucky to spot 4 of these amazing creatures on a boat trip in Kampi, a village in Kratie, through the Mekong river.

Thank you @LeubaRidgway :)That's very true. It was good to know that many of the locals knew about these beautiful dolphins and were aware of their importance. A few organizations like WWF are helping by researching and educating locals about them.
We hear much about Mekong cruises, chef's cooking on The Mekong, etc, etc....while the poor dolphins struggle for survival ! Good to know that there are a few projects going to save these creatures. Lovely shots . I hope these do well.
