Field Notes

Description:

She has already captured a really big green crab spider (Olios milleti) and had removed all the legs by the time I have seen her struggling with the weight of her precious prey. She dragged, jumped, and used her wings also to move this prey to it's macabre end in her nest.
20mm long with bright metallic blue color with red hind legs.

Habitat:

Spotted first on a lemon tree.

Wonderful observation, Sunny, faithfully recorded ... nice job.
Thank you for the info Sunny. Your images are crisp and perfect lighting. Fantastic! Keep up the good (macro) work ;-)
Thank you Andrea.. I used a Nikon D5100 for this shot. The camera was used in full manual mode with a manual focus micro nikkor 55 mm f/2.8 coupled with a 2x extender. Exposure was at 1/200 seconds at f/11. ISO 320 with camera mounted flash fired at 3/4 th power through a diffuser. Hope this helps.

Congrats sunnyjosef! Great Spotting of the Week!
Wow! Awesome capture Sunny, and congrats our Ranger team has chosen it as its Spotting of the Week! Auplopus wasps have the gruesome habit of amputating the legs of their prey before carrying it to their nest. Wow, she really let you in close for photos. Amazing spotting and fantastic photography, sunnyjosef!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
