Field Notes

Description:

Juniper. Evergreen shrub-like tree. Bark is brown and peeling in strips. Twigs are covered by scale-like needles. Fruit is a small cone covered in a skin that makes it look like a berry.

Habitat:

Grows all over Western North America. This one growing in Canyonlands NP - Island In The Sky. Red rock desert near Pinyon Pine and Single-leaf Ash.

Notes:

Thought it might be a Utah Juniper but Rocky Mountain Juniper fit better it seems.
