Description:

small bird about 5.5 inches long with a large head and almost no neck; tail is very short; long, narrow bill is straight or slightly upturned; gray-blue on the back, with a frosty white face, breast & belly; black or gray cap and neck frame the face and make it look like this bird is wearing a hood; lower belly and under the tail are often chestnut; Bluish-gray back and wings; eats insects & seeds; cavity nester

Habitat:

urban schoolyard

Notes:

found this little one dead under a window at school and think he must have flown into the window and broke its neck because we saw no other sign of injury
