Field Notes

Description:

An orange-brown Checkered Beetle, 1 cm in length, with dark brown marks on the elytra and a dark thorax and head. These beetles are predaceous. Another specimen (pictures 3-6) was found on 5 November 18 in the same place. This specimen shows the dark pattern a little clearer. There are more than 50 species of Cymatodera and new ones being found all the time. Family Cleridae, Subfamily Tillinae.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.
