Field Notes

Description:

Large mouthed fish with protruding lower jaw, dark-edge, and iridescent blue spots. Has a series of white vertical bars on the half rear of the body and a large patch under the pectoral fins.

Habitat:

Seen at shallow water, they chase their prey, reliying on ambush or careful stalking to get within striking distance.

Notes:

Dangerous to eat.

Most grouper fish begins their life as females and become male upon attaining large size.
