Field Notes

Description:

Blue dashers have a wingspan and body length of about 1.6 inches. Mature males have white-bluish (pruinose) tails. Younger males and females have marked yellowish-gold tails.

Habitat:

I find these dragonflies flying back and forth over water near brushy/grassy pond shorelines. The males often perch on twigs hanging over the water as they protect their territories.
