Description:
Orchid 15 - 40cm height with a dense flower spike. Flowers in the red-garnet range (although there are specimens with greenish hues), with a beak-like hood. The lip is tri-lobed with markings. The entire central lobe is complete and it presents a thick spur with nectar. It is called bug orchid due to its smell. Subespecies "fragans" smell vanilla-like. Within the genus Orchis is considered one of the most primitive groups, by the presence of nectar and by some other chemical characters.
