Field Notes

Description:

Leaves of the Nova Scotia Mayflower

Habitat:

Northern evergreen forest

Notes:

The Mayflower's early spring leaves are last year's (New leaves won't grow until after the flowers have come and gone later in the spring). They look tough and tattered, but do "green up" as the spring sun gets stronger.
