Field Notes

Description:

Large brown spider, with dark markings, easily over 5 inches in diameter. Seems to have a distinctive series of brown chevrons on the abdomen.

Habitat:

In and around Rangeley Lake, Maine - found 5 of these of varying sizes (the larger were the females of the species).

Notes:

We thought we had found a nice spot to watch the sunset alone on top of an old boathouse, we soon found these giant spiders after I inadvertently touched one on the railing. I was surprised to say the least.
