Field Notes

Description:

This large goose has a predominately brown body, white belly and breast, and black neck and head with a white "chinstrap." There are a number of different subspecies; the photo is of the "giant" subspecies.

Habitat:

Canada geese need two things. Water and grass. While traditionally found in wetlands and pastures, Canada geese have found suburban lawns and ponds in parks suitable habitat as well; much to the chagrin of suburbanites who try to maintain a perfect lawn.
