Description:
Common eurasian grey-and-black corvid. Except for the color, looks exactly like its first cousin, the all-black Carrion crow. About 50cm in length.
Habitat:
Here observed in Amman, in Jabal al-Qal'a (or Amman Citadel).
Common in urban and rural settings; while travelling through Jordan, was saw them everywhere, from urban areas, in towns, markets, parks, through rural areas and agricultural fields, to wilderness...
Notes:
As explained, common eurasian species, very close genetically to Corvus corone (Carrion crow) - it was longtemps considered as eastern subspecies of Carrion crow. The two species share Eurasia - C. corone (Carrion crow) in the west of Europe; and the extreme east of that landmass. Hooded crow occupies much larger territory, from Italy-Germany to China...
