Field Notes

Description:

Medium-sized squirrel with grizzled gray fur and white belly and throat.

Habitat:

Eastern deciduous woodlands, but has spread and been introduced in various places, including Britain where it is replacing the native red squirrel.

Notes:

I photographed this squirrel on my back deck as it rummaged through fallen leaves for spilled birdseed.
