Field Notes

Description:

Unidentified Psychidae. This kind of moth is very difficult to identify. Wikipedia explains that, because the "case" or "Bag" is always unique to each species, the best way to identify a Bagworm Moth is by its case. I have to admit, I have never managed to identify any of the several specimens I have posted on Project Noah. When I look in the Psychidae section of Philippine Lepidoptera and see how few have been identified by their experts, I can see the magnitude of the problem.

Habitat:

This Bagworm Moth was spotted in our backyard on the leaf of a Ben Oil Tree (Moringa oleifera). The name of this tree in the Philippines is Malunggay. Plant information - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Malunggay.html
