Field Notes

Description:

A new Emerald Moth that I've never seen! It was about 1 cm long with a unique color pattern of greens with white antennae. Family Geometridae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

There is a tiny larva 1 mm long below the moth. Many moths that come to the ultraviolet light lay some eggs on the white sheet below the light. This larva must have just hatched from one of those eggs and is searching for food.
