Description:

Tumorous growth on a tree... anyone know what this is? It was on several other nearby trees as well.

I'd say it's what's called a callus. When tree's get injured they form that kind of tissue...it can sprout new branches, but they're of a different kind than normal. I may be wrong...but this tree looks like it's taken a beating, so that's my guess.
